Luxury is not about the things that you own. It is about something that reflects your personal values, something that shows the choices that you have made in your life.
– Marcel Wanders

Many creatives, especially writers, feel burnt out. Not only from creating, but also from trying to find something worth reading. This is your invitation to create the kind of work that doesn’t just add to the noise, but offers timeless value.

And that’s exactly why the slow luxury approach gives you the power to offer what others are quietly searching for.

The essence of Slow Luxury.

Luxury takes on a new meaning when combined with the word ‘slow’. In the world of fast-everything and contemporary consumerism, having the time to read a book, eat fresh unprocessed food and being present in the moment seems like a luxury treat.

The biggest luxuries in life are the choices you make; having time and the liberty to do what you want and when you want it and living a comfortable life that you design for yourself according to your own taste and values.

If you combine it with best possible quality and sustainability of materials you surround yourself with and the ethical approach and moral integrity of every brand and person you interact with, you get to understand the core of the slow luxury.

Slow luxury is well-being on the highest level. It combines the comfort of the body, the peace of the mind, the tenderness of the heart and the liberty of the spirit.

That is what I mean by slow luxury lifestyle: the natural way of high quality life, in the most sustainable way, celebrating time, valuing slowness of the moment, appreciating abundance, heritage and craftsmanship, living happily and as close to nature as possible and seeing beyond oneself. It is an exclusive lifestyle that only few can truly understand.

Slow Luxury: a new standard of living.

The important element that contributes to slow luxury lifestyle is a sustainable mental attitude and the good feelings it creates.

The thoughts that you keep thinking (your belief system) affect your mood and inspire your actions and overall create the reality you live in. Therefore:

  • the better the thoughts you’re thinking, the greater you feel;
  • when you feel great, you express yourself better and you become more confident;
  • and the more confident you are, the better choices you make and you create deeper relationships in every area of your life.

Sustainability does not only refer to the resources on the Planet or the products you use or wear, but also to your mental well being and the way you treat yourself and others.

The thoughts and the feelings that you repeat daily impact all your relationships (with yourself, with your audience, with finances, with health, etc). Therefore, the way you:

  • talk to yourself (and others),
  • see and appreciate or criticise yourself (and others),
  • define success, abundance, luxury, love and intimacy,
  • always call yourself lucky and wise (or unlucky and not smart enough),
  • create time for what matters (or have no time at all for anything),
  • are in the right place at the right time (or quite the opposite),
  • trust your choices (or doubt them),
  • enjoy the present moment (or allow the meaningful events slip through your fingers).

The beliefs hidden behind these behaviours and attitudes affect your well being, whether you are aware of it or not.

Luxury is feeling unrushed. It is designing a life that allows you to do what you want with high leverage, with many options, all while feeling unrushed. – Tim Ferriss

Today’s literary world challenges: mass production, speed and sameness.

The concept of slow luxury encourages you to take time when writing and creating. Slow doesn’t mean being unproductive. Rather, it means allowing the story to unfold, the idea to develop its depth and for a piece of work to truly shape its form.

This approach stands in contrast to the urgency culture of today, which creates a pressure to produce more, faster, to always be ahead of trends and others.

But what do you lose when you’re obsessed with speed, visibility and constant comparison? To me, the answer is terrifying: depth. Texture. Originality. And sometimes, your own truth.

I wonder whether, in a world saturated with content, much of what you encounter feels like an echo of something you’ve already seen? Same thing, just in a slightly different package, that requires a lot of engagement but offers a little of insight in return.

Don’t you experience this kind of content fatigue, especially in the writing advice or creative self-development space, where the same topics are recycled endlessly, optimised for clicks, not craft?

Bloggers and influencers, in the writing industry and beyond, continue to produce at speed. They often repeat the same ideas with little depth, rarely adding a new perspective or a deeper meaning. It’s not that valuable content doesn’t exist. It does. But it’s scarce and it takes effort to uncover.

To find something that truly adds value to your life as a writer, something that offers reflection, originality or a meaningful shift in thinking, you often have to sift through dozens of near-identical ‘how to write’ articles and blog posts or books.

The true gems are there, but they demand time, attention and a willingness to look beyond the current trends. In that sense, discovering thoughtful writing has become a kind of luxury in itself; one that stands apart from the noise by the very fact that it took its time.

In the midst of that noise, slow luxury offers something rare: permission to pause and think deeply. It offers a path back to the ‘Why’.

Stories that breathe.

Slow luxury in writing is all about nurturing stories. Creating works that are given the space to evolve, which are edited with attention and released at the right moment. It is about bringing to life timeless works that prioritise meaning over momentum.

Imagine the luxurious exchange of time and thought between you, the creator, and your audience. That moment, when the final product becomes more than just a piece of content. When it becomes your legacy.

For writers, editors, publishers and readers alike, the slow luxury philosophy calls for a return to a quality writing. It values the unseen hours spent on thinking, researching and rewriting.

Slow luxury respects not only you, the author and your writing process, but – especially – the reader. I encourage you to find courage to write books that offer readers an immersive, rich experience. Books that demand attention and reflection and invite them to savour each word and each sentence.

The power of slowness for non-native writers.

Writing cannot be a quick transaction for those, who navigate multiple languages or cultural identities. Rather, the writing process resembles a slow unfolding, where a choice to write without hurrying is an act of care.

This care resists speed because it requires space. The space to listen, to translate thoughts into language and, sometimes, to translate the language itself. It allows for the in-between to exist. For the pauses. The hesitations. The rewrites.

For non-native writers memory doesn’t always translate neatly. A phrase might arrive in one language and a feeling in another. This makes room for an internal negotiation: ‘Do I say this in the language I think in or the one I feel in? Or, perhaps, the language I’m expected to write in?‘ That space, that breath between languages, is sacred. And it cannot be rushed.

Slowness, in this context, is a kind of luxury. The luxury of allowing a sentence to live in you before it ever lands on the page.

Slow luxury empowers you to say: ‘I will take the time I need to say this so that I can write with all the layers I carry within. I will not dilute my work for your comfort. I will take the time to find the right words, even if these words don’t exist in your language.

While the heart of a slow luxury writing lies in both mindset and intention, it is also something that can be nurtured through practice.

Practical tips on how to implement Slow Luxury into your writing career.

I encourage you to look at your writing from a slow luxury perspective. Value quality over quantity and hone your craft with care aligned with a long-term vision. Are you ready to integrate slowness into your writing process?

If so, let’s explore a few directions:

  • focus on depth of your stories and characters rather than simply meeting the word count;
  • allow yourself to explore your own craft and revise your work without rushing through drafts and submissions;
  • take your time to define your style and build a narrative that truly is your own, rather than following trends or writing to meet market demands;
  • try to hand-write drafts before typing them up, allow your mind to slowly inspire each word, each sentence and each paragraph;
  • focus on your well being and the quality of your writing process in order to avoid the burnout and minimise the ‘writer’s block’ moments;
  • approach your writing with care and take time to create works that are meaningful and connect deeply with your audience;
  • consider creating fewer, but more impactful books so that your stories feel deliberate and luxurious in a way that every detail is considered.
Timeless author brand.

With slow luxury mindset you can label yourself as being an artisan. This narrative elevates your status from someone who writes books to someone who crafts works of art, positioning your brand as one that values the artistic process and celebrates the craftsmanship involved.

Authors, who apply slow luxury thinking while developing their brand, create an aura of exclusivity, rarity and significance around their persona. Their work feels more purposeful.

They become curators of experiences for their audience and their presence becomes something readers look forward to. This attracts a certain type of readers: those who value quality over quantity, timelessness over trend, and depth over speed.

Your author identity can become more than just the amount of books you published. You can use your brand narrative to reflect your values, passions and purpose. You have the power to offer your readers something they will want to savour encore et encore.

I choose to believe that you prefer your readers to invest in your journey and be inspired by you, rather than just consume your products. I want to believe you value a legacy of rich, carefully crafted works more than producing mass-market content quickly.

That’s what I chose for myself and what I’m hoping you will choose too. To build loyalty and trust with your readers not only through the quantity of your books, but through the quality of your message and your persona.

Trust the long arc of creative development.

I mentioned the over-saturation of content and the lack of depth or originality in much of it. Then, I highlighted the distinction between the volume of content and its value.

In the world where finding anything worthwhile takes effort and visibility is often mistaken for value, slow luxury comes to the rescue. It provides an alternative for writers, showing them the importance of long-term growth as an author and a lasting impact of their brand.

Trust in the long arc of creative development in your writing journey. Believe that the work you do today, however small or unseen, is part of something bigger. You don’t have to keep up. You just have to keep going, at your own pace.

And maybe that is the truest luxury of all.

Luxury to me is not about buying expensive things; it’s about living in a way where you appreciate things. – Oscar de la Renta
