Writing beyond borders: support for cross-cultural and non-native writers
A space that celebrates writers who expand language and enrich literature across borders.

I never thought that one day my life would be turned upside down, that I would move out of my country, leave behind my language and people. I couldn’t have imagined that from that moment on I would call multiple places ‘home’ and use several languages daily to connect with people around the globe. Each of these encounters has left its trace on me. They have broadened the perspective from which I see the world, have deepened my storytelling and have shaped the way I use words to communicate.
Writing in a language that was not my own felt frightening and overwhelming at first, yet it has been the very path that shaped my voice and my narrative. It taught me that words carry different shades of meaning depending on where you stand and that stories expand when seen through more than one cultural lens.
These experiences became the foundation of both my writing practice and my work with writers. As a writer who is both non-native and cross-cultural, I know the uncertainties of finding a voice in a language that is not one’s first. I also experienced the remarkable gifts that come with it: new metaphors, rhythms and new ways of seeing.
This is why I encourage others to step into their own voice, for it is in the in-between that the most powerful and beautiful stories are born.
Navigating cross-cultural narratives
Language evolves and is enriched through people, especially those who have the courage to cross boundaries of language, thought or culture. Higher levels of understanding emerge in these crossings, in order to offer fresh perspectives to both writer and reader. Here, writing finds its deepest resonance and its most original voice. And as the writing itself is alive too, it naturally grows and matures through the writer’s curiosity and patience.
Much of my work lies in guiding writers of all backgrounds through three interwoven areas: writing, editing and author branding. I see these areas as equal parts of an ongoing dialogue about voice, craft, presence and identity. To share this dialogue more widely, I created a journal where I gather reflections across these three areas. Within it, I have also created a spotlight — Beyond Borders — dedicated to non-native and cross-cultural aspects, where you can explore ideas most relevant to those unique journeys. You may want to begin there if you are ready to deepen your voice.
