Writing beyond borders: support for cross-cultural and non-native writers
A space that celebrates writers who expand language and enrich literature across borders.

I never thought that one day my life would be turned upside down, that I would leave my country, my language and my people. I couldn’t have imagined that from that moment on I would call multiple places ‘home’ and use several languages daily to connect with a multitude of people around the globe.
Each of these encounters has left its trace on me, broadening the perspective from which I see the world, deepening my storytelling and shaping the way I use words to communicate.
Although writing in a language that was not my own felt frightening and overwhelming at first, it has never been a detour; it has been the very path that shaped my voice and my narrative.
It taught me that words carry different shades of meaning depending on where you stand and that stories deepen when seen through more than one lens.
These experiences became the foundation of both my writing practice and my work with writers. As a writer who is both non-native and cross-cultural, I know the uncertainties of finding a voice in a language that is not one’s first. Yet I also experienced the remarkable gifts that come with it: new metaphors, new rhythms, and new ways of seeing and understanding.
This is why I encourage others to step into their own voice, for it is in the in-between that the most powerful and beautiful stories are born.
Navigating cross-cultural narratives
Language is alive. It evolves and is enriched through people – especially those who have the courage to cross boundaries of language, thought or culture. In these crossings, new rhythms, metaphors and ways of seeing emerge, offering fresh perspectives to both writer and reader.
It is in this interplay that writing finds its deepest resonance and its most original voice. And as the writing itself has a life too, it naturally grows and matures – through the writer’s practice, curiosity and patience.
Much of my work lies in guiding writers of all backgrounds through three interwoven areas: writing, editing and branding. I see them as equal parts of an ongoing dialogue about voice, craft and identity.
To share this dialogue more widely, I created a journal where I gather reflections, insights and practical guidance across these three areas.
Within it, I have also created a spotlight — Beyond Borders — dedicated to non-native and cross-cultural writing. This is not a separate category, but a space of emphasis, where you can explore ideas most relevant to those unique journeys.
This may be a place to begin if you are ready to deepen your voice.
