Editing is a thoughtful conversation, not a one-sided correction. It transforms a black-and-white draft into a story full of colours.

Bespoke editing services for writers and authors
Tailored editorial assistance for writers preparing for submissions, self-publishing or wanting to improve their manuscripts, while helping them step fully into authorial identity.

Editing is rarely a simple step in the writing process. Even the most accomplished writers struggle to view their own work with the objectivity and technical eye needed to refine structure, pacing and clarity.
Sometimes a chapter feels out of place; a character arc may be inconsistent, or the story’s rhythm doesn’t fully engage readers. These challenges are a natural part of the craft.
Thoughtful editorial support helps you see both what works and where refinement could make your manuscript better. It provides clarity when ideas feel tangled, guidance when structural questions arise, and craft-focused insight that strengthens both your narrative and your voice.
Through editing services, I provide you with a full manuscript edit, targeted assessments of key sections, or one-to-one guide to develop self-editing skills. Together, we will refine your work while maintaining l’authenticité de votre voix – the authenticity of your voice – and strengthen the overall feel of your story.
Explore the options below to select the level of support that best suits your project.

Manuscript Development
Do you find it difficult to shift from writing into editing mode? Or perhaps you feel confident in storytelling yet unsure about how to refine your manuscript?
Many talented writers thrive in their creative flow of writing but find editing challenging. This is often due to à un lien émotionnel avec l’histoire – an emotional connection with the story – or because editing requires a different skillset – emotional distance, precision and a technical eye – which may not come naturally when you are deeply immersed in your own ideas.
That’s where editorial support makes the difference. Through thoughtful editing, I help you identify what is working and what may need improvement, so your manuscript not only reads smoothly but also resonates with your audience.
I aim to refine your narrative while preserving the authenticity of your voice. My approach combines technical expertise and a deep respect for your original work.
A full editorial pass examines the complete manuscript in depth, focusing on structure, content, plot clarity and narrative flow. It shapes your writing into a strong and compelling draft ready for further revision, sentence-level editing or pre-publication.
Explore three plans for Manuscript Development:
- Developmental Editing – full edit pass to improve the overall content coherence of your written piece
- Structural Editing – full edit pass to refine overall framework of your manuscript
- One-to-One Self-Editing Sessions – personalised guidance and practical tools to help you think like an editor – without losing your voice as a writer
In developmental editing the editor asks the essential question: Is the story strong and meaningful at its heart?
Developmental editing is the big picture approach that shapes your story’s substance and refines the core ideas. It asks the essential question: Is the story strong and meaningful at its heart?
My process involves working with a completed manuscript and responding directly to what is already on the page. The focus is on content and meaning: the ideas, narrative, voice and emotional depth.
My feedback highlights substantive changes, such as what to add, expand or cut, and may require significant rewriting.
Developmental Editing typically addresses:
- Theme and message development – clarifying the central theme to ensure emotional depth, consistency and resonance throughout the manuscript
- Concept and premise – strengthening the core premise so it is able to carry the full weight of the narrative
- Genre alignment – ensuring emotional and tonal alignment with genre expectations
- Narrative coherence – supporting the internal logic and flow of the story, identifying any confusing or underdeveloped narrative threads
- Character development and consistency – deepening psychological depth, motivations, emotional engagement, transformation and behavioural uniformity across the arc
- Voice and tone – refining the voice for consistency and aligning the tone with your intention and the reader’s emotional journey
- Reader engagement – shaping narrative momentum and pacing to influence emotional investment and keep the reader engaged through the entire book
Optional add-ons for Developmental Editing services
- Voice or style sample rewrite – a short passage refined to illustrate adjustments in tone, rhythm or stylistic consistency
- Second-pass review – a follow-up evaluation after revisions, focusing on how changes have strengthened the manuscript
- Progress check after one month – a brief review to support momentum and provide feedback on new developments
- Bundle with Structural Editing – combine services at a discounted rate to maintain continuity and cohesion across your project
Disclaimer | Developmental Editing services – Manuscript Development services
Please note that I specialise in Developmental Editing and Structural Editing, I do not provide copyediting or proofreading. Developmental Editing is offered as a one-off service with no ongoing commitment, unless you choose to add follow-up support or extras.
This service is delivered as feedback and suggestions, not actual manuscript rewriting.
In structural editing the editor asks the question: Is everything in the right place and is it working together?
Structural editing is the big picture approach that concentrates on how your manuscript is organised: chapter structure, scene arrangement, pacing, coherence and logical flow. It asks the question: Is everything in the right place and is it working together?
My role is to strengthen the overall framework of your manuscript, ensuring every plot contributes to the bigger picture and each scene advances the story. I help identify gaps or inconsistencies in structure, refine chapter organisation and add fluidity to transitions between scenes.
Structural Editing typically addresses:
- Plot and story arc – shaping the overall narrative structure, evaluating how subplots contribute (or distract from) the core story
- Manuscript cohesion – refining narrative symmetry, balancing tension and resolution, strengthening the sequence and connection between chapters
- Pacing and flow – analysing how the story unfolds across the scenes and chapters, clarifying whether slower sections serve their purpose and smoothing transitions
- Scene breakdown – refining scenes to ensure their purpose, avoid repetition, balance the intensity and evaluate whether they contribute to plot development
- Character development and consistency – ensuring that characters appear where needed to serve the plot and that their development aligns logically with narrative framework
Optional add-ons for Structural Editing services
- Second-pass review – a follow-up evaluation after revisions, focusing on how changes have strengthened the manuscript
- Progress check after one month – a brief review to support momentum and provide feedback on new developments
- Bundle with Developmental Editing – combine services at a discounted rate to maintain continuity and cohesion across your project

Would you like to develop self-editing skills and keep full creative control of your story?
You have completed the story, but now the prospect of editing feels overwhelming. You know your manuscript needs refinement, yet you may be uncertain where to begin. Perhaps you wish to revise it yourself to reduce editing costs, or maybe you are not yet ready to hand it over.
The One-to-One Self-Editing Sessions guide you through that process.
They provide a supportive way forward. Rather than passing your manuscript directly to an editor, we work through it together.
I bring editorial insight, structural clarity and empathetic guidance. You bring the draft. Together, we refine your story while building the skills you need to approach future edits with confidence. These sessions help you learn how to think like an editor. Along the way, you improve your own writing craft.
Even if you plan to hire an editor later, polishing your work first saves time, reduces cost and allows your editor to focus on deeper refinements. The more polished the draft, the stronger and more cohesive the final version will be.
Disclaimer | One-to-One Self-Editing Sessions for Manuscript Development
Please note that this is a collaborative, in-depth process that takes time. To achieve best results, a minimum six-months commitment is required.
We start with your completed draft and work through the key stages of developmental and structural editing, focusing on plot, pacing, character development and overall story structure.
Sessions focus on building your editing skills and reviewing your progress and take place either once a week or twice a month, depending on what we agree. After each session, you put your new skills into practice, revising your manuscript with greater clarity and confidence.
Still not sure what is best for you at this stage of your writing? Reach out and I will help you see what your manuscript needs and what your next best step may be.
Focused Editorial Evaluations
Not every project is ready for a full edit and not every writer considers a deep review of their manuscript. You may have begun shaping your story, revising a first draft or exploring a new idea. Focused Editorial Evaluation offers targeted insight to guide your next steps before a full draft is written.
My role is to provide feedback on specific parts of your project, such as your story outline, first chapter or early manuscript, without the depth (and cost) of a full developmental edit.
These assessments act as checkpoints along votre parcours d’écriture – your writing journey – offering expert input that enables you to move forward with confidence, clarity and purpose.
Focused Editorial Evaluation is a lighter form of editorial support designed for early-stage writers. It concentrates on outlines or partial drafts to provide guidance on structure, concept development and overall direction before the draft is completed.
Three areas where editorial support can advance your story:
- Story Outline Assessment – feedback on story structure and plot consistency before drafting begins
- First Chapter Assessment – assessment of an opening and guidance to refine it so it captures readers from the first page
- Light Editorial Assessment – an overview critique on early draft without a full edit
Smarter outline sets the stage for more confident and articulate writing.
Planning your novel or nonfiction book? Before you begin drafting chapters, it is essential to establish a solid story structure, a compelling concept, and a plot with pacing and emotional complexity to keep readers engaged.
Story Outline Assessment offers professional feedback on your story’s foundation so you draft with confidence and reduce the risk of costly rewrites later.
The Story Outline evaluation includes a personalised editorial letter with feedback on:
- Story concept, roadmap and premise – is the core idea compelling and clearly defined?
- Character journey – does the character arc support the narrative?
- Turning points and stakes – are the challenges strong enough to drive the plot?
- Logical progression – does the plot follow an engaging arc?
This assessment is ideal during early planning or pre-drafting stages. It suits writers outlining a new project or working with a plot-first or structure-first approach who want guidance before moving forward.
Optional add-ons for Story Outline Assessment service
- Follow-up consultation call – a brief session to discuss feedback, clarify points or explore next steps
- Bundle with First Chapter Assessment – combine services at a discounted rate to maintain continuity and cohesion across your project

Please note that this is not a full edit and does not substitute for Developmental Editing or Structural Editing.
The Story Outline Assessment is a one-off service. Once completed, the final personalised editorial letter is delivered as agreed, with no recurring commitments.
Because how you begin matters – focused editorial review to ensure your opening pages do their best work
A strong opening chapter sets the tone for the rest of your book. An effective beginning combines a powerful hook with characters who intrigue and stakes that signal what is at risk, creating momentum that carries the reader forward.
You will receive tailored feedback that highlights the strengths of your opening chapter, identifies areas that could be refined, and offers practical suggestions to help you shape a chapter that draws readers from the very first line.
First Chapter Assessment includes a personalised editorial letter with feedback on:
- Opening hook – does the first page capture attention?
- Tone and voice – is the narrative style engaging and consistent?
- Character introduction – are the main characters compelling from the start?
- Clarity and flow – does the chapter read smoothly?
- Pacing and structure – does the chapter move at the right speed for your genre?
- Genre and audience fit – does it set the right expectations for your readers?
This assessment is ideal for writers who do not need a full edit but want to ensure the opening instantly captures the reader’s attention.
Optional add-ons for First Chapter Assessment services
- Follow-up consultation call – a session to discuss feedback, clarify points or explore next steps
- In-text highlights – optional mark-up of key areas to illustrate specific points in your manuscript
- Bundle with Story Outline Assessment – combine services at a discounted rate to maintain continuity and cohesion across your project
Disclaimer | First Chapter Assessment – Focused Editorial Evaluations
Please note that this is not a full edit and does not substitute for full Developmental Editing or Structural Editing.
The First Chapter Assessment is a one-off service. The chapter submitted for evaluation should be no longer than 3000 words. Once completed, the final personalised editorial letter is delivered as agreed with no recurring commitments.
A considered evaluation to help you see your manuscript more clearly.
A concise editorial overview that highlights the strengths and weaknesses of your draft without the full editorial deep-dive. The evaluation centres on the core elements of your story, offering guidance on where your writing is strongest and where revisions could bring greater clarity and impact.
Light Editorial Assessment includes a personalised editorial letter with feedback on:
- Opening and hook – does the beginning capture attention?
- Concept and premise – is the story engaging and clear?
- Characters – are your main characters believable and compelling?
- Tone and voice – is your narrative style consistent throughout the story?
- Structure and flow – does the story read smoothly?
- Genre and audience fit – does it establish the right expectations?
Light Editorial Assessment is well suited to early drafts and to writers who wish to understand what is already effective in their story and what may need improvement before moving into more detailed editing. It also serves indie writers who prefer a broad overview of their writing without committing to the intensity of a full edit.
Optional add-ons for Light Editorial Assessment
- Follow-up consultation call – a session to discuss feedback, clarify points or explore next steps
- In-text highlights on the first ten pages – optional mark-up illustrating specific feedback directly in your manuscript
Disclaimer for Light Editorial Assessment
Please note that this is not a full edit and does not substitute for full Developmental Editing or Structural Editing.
The Light Editorial Assessment is a one-off service. The submitted draft should be no longer than 80000 words. The service does not include margin comments, detailed analysis of chapters or scenes, or in-line corrections. Once completed, the final personalised editorial letter is delivered as agreed with no recurring commitments.

Note for US-based authors about the scope of developmental editing
Difference between developmental and structural editing services for US-based writers
In the UK and most of European countries, developmental editing and structural editing are treated as two distinct services. In the US these two are often combined under the name of ‘developmental editing’. I align with the UK/EU model of treating them separately.
To clarify the distinction between the two: Structural editing looks at the big picture in a broad sense, refining structure and flow, while developmental editing goes deeper, shaping ideas, logic and narrative direction. If you compare editing to a human body, structural editing would be about the skeleton, while developmental editing would be about heart and muscles. But they are generally part of the same editorial process.
If you’re used to the US system, don’t worry – I am happy to align my feedback with your expectations and clarify what’s included in each service. I offer a combined full story edit (structural + developmental editing bundle), which includes feedback about the framework of your manuscript as well as the deep dive into the theme and content; similar to what’s often called a ‘developmental editing’ in the US.
Not sure where to begin? Let’s find the right path forward, together.
